Doctor Who’s Pearl Mackie has said she would like to play the role of James Bond.
The 29-year-old actress, who has been cast as the Time Lord’s new sidekick Bill Potts in the upcoming series, said she has already got her eyes on a big screen role.
Mackie, the Doctor’s first openly gay aide, told the Mirror: “I’d quite like to play James Bond.
“Not Jane Bond – James.
“If I can be called Bill, I can be called James, can’t I?”
Daniel Craig is the second-longest serving Bond, having assumed the role in 2005. The title is currently held by Roger Moore, who played the secret agent for 14 years.
Craig’s last appearance as Bond was in 2015’s Spectre, but shortly after it was released he said he would rather “slash my wrists” than appear in another Bond film.
Since then speculation has mounted over who will replace him.
Poldark’s Aidan Turner, Luther actor Idris Eldba, The Night Manager’s Tom Hiddleston and Hollywood star Ryan Gosling are among those who have been tipped for the role.
