Driver Seriously Injured After Crash

A two-vehicle crash happened yesterday at around 12.20pm on the A68 at Burtree Gate, near Darlington.

A motorist has been serious injured after his car rolled over in a two-vehicle crash yesterday.

The incident happened at around 12.20pm on the A68 at Burtree Gate, near Darlington, and involved a Volkswagen Bora and Vauxhall Astra.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service also attended the scene and airlifted the male driver of the VW to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, with a serious head injury.

The male driver and female passenger of the Astra were uninjured.

The road was closed in both directions from the Swanhouse roundabout to Junction 58 at Burtree to allow for the air ambulance to land.

Durham Constabulary would like to speak with anybody who witnessed the incident or saw the vehicles prior to the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting reference 212 of July 18.​
